“Bare Bones Motel”

  , O Fallon
I stayed there not by choice but because Altus AFB lodging was full. First, the Internet speed was atrocious. I actually tried to contact the front desk first, and then the Microtel "Contact Us" form on their site. I received a reply indicating that I would hear back from a manager within 72 hours. Never received any response. They did in fact have wired Ethernet ports in the rooms, but the speed was that of a NetZero dial up connection. As far the wi-fi signal itself goes, there were three separate networks that were available. The strength of the signal was dismal at best...even in the main lobby. Second, the free breakfast wasn't all that desirable. A bunch of cereal, bread, and waffles. Third, the rooms have ancient TVs in them. The old tube TVs and it was propped up on top of a closet cabinet at a downward angle, or a rotating pedastool. This was in a corner of the room with two beds. If you were laying in the far bed, forget about watching TV. One couldn't get the TV to stay at an angle appropriate to watch due to the weight of the TV glass causing it to proceed back to the straight position. Third, there were dead crickets all over the carpet in my room. Apparently they don't vacuum?Fourth, I was on the second floor and the hallway was filled with cigarette smoke. I would never, ever expose my kids to something like this. Horrible design and/or ventilation. Fifth, the dryer was broken on the second floor. Unless you wanted to do laundry in the middle of the night, you were fighting for the lone working dryer. Management was very disconnected and the people at the front desk didn't even appear to have on any type of uniforms. Unprofessional at best.
