“Worst Hotel Experience We've Ever Had”

  , Beaufort, South Carolina, Usa
We decided to stay at this hotel in hopes of saving a few bucks. This hotel was not even worth the $50 per night. We were attending a convention and treating it as a vacation for the two of us. I had stayed at a Microtel before and it was reasonable. But this one was disgusting. The minute we walked into the hotel lobby, it heavily smelled of urine and smoke. We decided to take a look at the room before we went through the trouble of finding a different hotel. We checked in, and rode an elevator that smelled horrible as well. Our room did not stink, and it was reasonably clean, but I certainly did not feel comfortable staying in the room or in the hotel. We ended up deciding to stay for the night out of being tired from our trip, not really wanting to go through the trouble of finding a new hotel. I bought a can of Lysol and sprayed the heck out of the room though. We didn't walk barefoot and were very apprehensive about the bed. Once we finally went to bed, the fire alarm went off for about ten seconds. We fell back asleep, but this happened three more times throughout the night. The last time the alarm went off, it was about five in the morning. While trying to go to sleep, we could hear everything going on in the rooms around us, which included hearing a couple have sex above us. That was the last straw, so we spent the early morning searching for a new hotel. We canceled our reservation for the next night and packed up. I might add that the people working the front desk were not helpful or friendly. Needless to say, both of us felt so much better and actually began to enjoy our weekend once we checked into the Hyatt Place not far. I never appreciated a clean bed so much! Anyways, overall, this Microtel was dirty, cramped, and not worth a penny. If you are considering staying there, save your money and stay somewhere else. Not to mention, there aren't any good places to eat nearby either. I will never stay at a Microtel again!! Nor will I recommend it to anyone!
