“Poorly kept but nice staff”

  , Middleton
We have stayed in this hotel a number of times because of its price and location. However, after the recent renovations the price has gone up - which is fine, the rooms are indeed more nicely appointed. However, the continuation of issues from before the renovation coupled with the price increase, severely lowers the value of this hotel. The cleanliness of the hotel has been poor at best, and seems to be getting worse. Unclean surfaces and floors are the most common. This last stay, there were greasy streaks and handprints on most of the wood surfaces, the floor had small debris, crumbs all over it. The bathrooms are always clean though, and that is the most important part to me. This most recent stay we had two adults, one child so we requested a room with one bed and a sleeper couch. The first room we were put in, the couch was right in front of the bathroom and almost blocking the door to the room. With the bed pulled out the bathroom would have been inaccessible. We moved to a different room that was laid out more logically. When we pulled the bed out, it had obviously not been changed since the last guest had used it. There was debris deep in the bed, and the sheets were rumpled from a sleeper, not the normal fold lines from just being folded in a couch. Despite the fact that this was a room for 3-4 people, there were only 2 towels in the bathroom, (and no soap or shampoo) and there was no additional pillow for the pull out bed. This may actually be a lack of supplies by the hotel and not any neglect on the staff's part. I requested an extra pillow and blanket and it took the front desk person about 20 minutes to find each of them, and I observed her looking in numerous logical places that I have seen them stored at other hotels. The pillow she found was decent but the blanket had obviously been pulled from a deep dark place as it had permanent fold lines, was very ratty and smelled extremely musty. Extra pillows, blankets and towels should be easily accessible by hotel staff, clean, and in sufficient quantity to make a number of guests' stays comfortable. All that being said, the staff have always been, and were again on this trip, among the friendliest at any hotel I've visited. They are always nice, polite, enjoyable to chat with, and go out of their way to try to accommodate any requests. The deficiencies at the hotel do not appear to be as much a staffing issue as a management issue in the lack of supplies and training.
