“My Microtel Experience”

My stay at the Microtel in Columbus was nice. I was in town for my son's graduation from boot camp at Ft Benning. I based my hotel choice on Trip Advisor reviews. It was a good choice. For the money you can't beat it. It was as clean as one could expect a hotel to be, except for the bathroom door. Something had been splashed on it and it wasn't cleaned off. I also liked the free breakfast. There was a good selection of breakfast items, from yogurt to cereal to waffles. Regarding the staff, I can't say enough about Karen and Linda at the front desk. They were outstanding. They really made me feel welcomed. They were very pleasant and really understood the concept of customer service. Linda gave me great directions to the Fort and Karen was very warm and very kind, and both she and Linda were very professional. The only exception was one of the young ladies on the evening shift. She was OK, but once, after returning to my room and discovering that the maids had forgotten to leave wash cloths, I called the front desk. Her response was: "Can you come down and get them?". If she had just added that they were short staffed or SOMETHING it wouldn't have been so bad, but she didn't. Other than that, the staff was great. The one drawback at the hotel over all for me was the aroma of cigarette smoke. I really hate cigarettes. I had a non-smoking room, but I still smelled smoke occasionally. I cracked my window which did help. If there is anything they can do to remedy this, they need to work on it. I would recommend the Microtel for anyone looking for value because you will definitely find it there.
