“Dirty, nasty, scary sleepless night”

  , Lithia
The property makes a good first impression. The first floor lobby is well lit, tiled and the staff are friendly and efficient. When we got off the elevator on the second floor, I knew we made a mistake. The hallway carpets were dingy and dirty, with old stains. The walls were equally dingy, scuffed and in need of paint. When we entered the room, we were in trouble. The carpet was equally dirty and stained, with sticky strings of old gum (I hope!) on the floor, and the walls were filthy. There was a thumbnail-sized glob of dried red: 1) blood, 2) mucus, or 3) fingernail polish (I think think #2) near the mini-refrigerator, which was standing in the narrow hall outside of the bathroom leading into the room. The black-out curtain was perforated across the window allowing finger-sized rays of street lighting into the room all night. A mirror covered the entire width of the back wall behind the bed headboards (my wife assumed that the mirror was two-way for peepers). None of us slept well that night. I worried about bed bugs (no signs of bites or scabbies so far) and what a blue light on the sheets might disclose. We didn't eat the free breakfast for fear of what the sanitary conditions in the kitchen. Overall, a very unattractive, dirty, unkempt nightmare of a room, and experience. The worst I had since I left Afghanistan in 2011, and the worst for any name-brand hotel I've stayed in for more than 20 years!
