Zephyrhills, FL

Arrival:
I arrived at the hotel on Sunday at 5:15 PM. Difficulty was experienced in getting to the property due to construction in the area. The three story, blue/gray building with white trim was very attractive and the grounds were litter free and beautifully landscaped with yellow mums. Adequate handicap parking spaces and ramps were available and I was able to park right outside the door. The handicap parking and ramp made it easy to maneuver a wheelchair or walker up the ramp.

Check-In:
On entering the property, I noticed that both the ash urn and the trashcan were overflowing, which marred the initial arrival impression. The lobby was attractively furnished, and Beverly was busy assisting another guest. She attended to me immediately upon completion. The reservation was located and a room change request was accommodated. Payment was established via credit card, the key was presented without a folder and the room number was stated out loud; although at the time, it was not a security risk because there was no one in the lobby. Beverly mentioned that coffee was available 24-hours a day and offered luggage assistance, which was gladly accepted. No mention was made of MicroPass membership but an AAA membership discount was applied. Beverly wished me a pleasant stay and assured me that help would be available anytime on request.

Guest Room:
The room was located on the first floor down the hall from the lobby. The door key worked properly, opened easily and wide enough to accommodate the walker. There were two viewers on the door. The guestroom was large and cheerful. The height of the bed was perfect for getting in and out. I especially enjoyed the window seat, which was perfect to watch the football game. The heating/cooling controls were located below the window seat to be easily accessed by a wheelchair bound guest. There was adequate storage space and a large desk with a telephone port above it. The lighting was wonderful and there was plenty of space to maneuver the walker around the room.

Bathroom:
The bathroom was large and spotless. There was plenty of room to maneuver a wheelchair or large walker. The door was “overlarge” enabling easy access. The bathroom was equipped with four grab bars in the bathtub with a seat on one end of the tub for easy access to the shower, which had a hand-held showerhead. The tub had a non-skid surface. Both the towel racks and the sink were easily accessible and the pipes were wrapped. There were grab bars on each side of the toilet and the lighting was more than adequate.

Public Areas:
With the exception of the trashcan and ash urn, the grounds were exceptionally clean. All interior areas were tastefully decorated and clean. The small alcove with chairs and a coffee table to one side of the lobby were a most welcome resting spot. The vending and breakfast area were clean and neat and the carpets were vacuumed. The corridors were wide and not crowded. The lobby was large enough for several people to gather, or for a wheelchair to maneuver.

Overall Impression:
The ADA room was fully equipped to make a stay at this property enjoyable. I was especially impressed with the grab bars in the bathroom and the large doorway to the guest as well as the bathroom. I was treated with respect and assistance was offered if it was needed. Due to the easy access to the building, the large rooms and easy to open doors, I felt able to get around without any assistance, and would gladly return or choose Microtel when they next travel.
